What is DOT reflective tape ?
DOT tape refers to high-visibility reflective strips applied to the sides and rear of trailers, semi-trailers, and other large vehicles. "DOT" stands for Department of Transportation, and "C2" denotes that the tape meets specific technical requirements and it is at least 2 inches wide — most commonly a red and white alternating pattern.
Why is DOT tape mandatory ?
DOT-C2 reflective tape isn’t just a recommendation, it’s a regulatory requirement. Whether your vehicles operate in Canada or the U.S., applying the right type of conspicuity tape is essential to meeting CMVSS 108 (Canada) and FMVSS 108 (USA) standards. These rules are designed to make large vehicles visible at night or in poor weather, reduce side and rear-end collisions, and clearly outline the trailer’s dimensions for surrounding traffic. If your trailer has a gross nominal mass of more than 4,536 kg (10,000 lb), you’re required by law to equip it with certified red-and-white reflective tape, applied in specific patterns along the side and rear.
